Where to now Baba Jukwa?

Baba Jukwa, the facebook character that became a sensation in the run-up to the just ended elections, says he or she is here to stay and cleanse Zimbabwe. “As long as the evil people exist I will exist. Together we will attain a better Zimbabwe,” the character said.

The character, who now has 343 011 likes, says it is sad that some shallow-minded individuals think that he or she will be silenced just because of a flawed election process which went in favour or his or her former evil party.

But the latest posting indicates that the character could be gradually phase out.

“When our Freedom fighters were bombed in Mozambique and Zambia they didn’t give up. I urge Zimbabweans to keep their eye on the ball never give up, but it’s time to be serious in fighting the evil as you are now aware of it’s capabilities.

“My role is to expose evil and motivate you and I will continue doing that till the land is clean. Meanwhile, let’s congratulate the progressive forces who managed to win elections. Congratulations once again. I promise you, I will never leave you alone, but will continue exposing evil people,” the character said.

While the media hailed the character as an anti-Mugabe campaigner, The Insider, queried this arguing that Baba Jukwa was more of a campaigner for the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front.

The character came onto facebook shortly after the referendum and dictated what people could talk about in ZANU-PF, lulling the Movement for Democratic Change to think that ZANU-PF was in disarray.

For Baba Jukwa, it could  be mission accomplished.

The Insider

The Insider is a political and business bulletin about Zimbabwe, edited by Charles Rukuni. Founded in 1990, it was a printed 12-page subscription only newsletter until 2003 when Zimbabwe's hyper-inflation made it impossible to continue printing.
