Zimbabwe resident Robert Mugabe and United States President Donald Trump will never get along even for three minutes because of their egos, former United States ambassador to Zimbabwe Charles Ray said.
Mugabe recently said he agreed with Trump’s American nationalism where he emphasised that America was for Americans and so should Zimbabwe be for Zimbabweans.
Ray told NewZimbabwe.Com that: “Given the size of their respective egos, I can't see Trump and Mugabe getting along for longer than three minutes.”
The former ambassador said Mugabe was going to be greatly disappointed if he thought that Trump would lift sanctions on Zimbabwe.
“I don't think Trump knows or cares enough to take that issue on,” Ray said.
Former United States President Barack Obama renewed United States sanctions on Zimbabwe before he stepped down in January.
Normally US sanctions on Zimbabwe, which have been on for more than a decade, are renewed in February or March.
Asked where he thought Mugabe and Trump might clash, Ray said: “Just about anything. Trump has a tendency to say things in a provocative way, and as you know, Mugabe reacts badly when he thinks he might have been insulted.”
