Mavhaire, Mutezo fired

Energy Minister Dzimakai Mavhaire and his deputy Munacho Mutezo have been fired, according to The Herald. The paper said the two were served with their dismissal letters last night and have confirmed their dismissal. “Yes, it’s true that the two of us have been sacked.  The letter was sent to me last night and I signed for it,” the paper quotes Mavhaire as saying. “Mandipedza hazvina mhosva. That is what you wanted. I do not think it is fair to discuss the President’s letter with a journalist. You serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and you don’t question his authority,” it quoted Mutezo as saying. The dismissal of Mavhaire and Mutezo is seen as a purge on ministers who supported Vice-President Joice Mujuru, who too, should be on the firing line. President Robert Mugabe is expected to announce his politburo tomorrow which will indicate who his two deputies are and who the national chairman is. It will also signal the end of the political careers of some of his former lieutenants who will have to start afresh as ordinary members.
