One more Zimbabwean dies of coronavirus as cases surpass 7 000

One more Bulawayo person, making them two in a row, died of coronavirus yesterday pushing the national death toll to 208 and that for the second city to 39.

There were 139 new cases but only 13 recoveries raising the total number of cases to 7 116 and recoveries to 5 373 leaving 1 535 active cases, an increase from 1 410.

The number of active cases peaked at 3 170 on 11 August but dropped down to 903 on 23 August.

Most of the active cases are in Harare which has 859 cases but three provinces have less than 20 cases each.

Masvingo only has 8 cases, followed by Matebeleland North with 16 and Mashonaland Central with 19.

Globally the number of cases now stands at 27.3 million. Some 887 600 people have died, 19.4 million have recovered and there are still 7 million active cases.

Though the number of cases in South Africa continues to rise and there are 638 517 including 14 889 deaths, the number of active continues to decline and now stands at 59 737.
