Former Zimbabwe Health Minister arrested

Former Health and Child Care Minister David Parirenyatwa has been arrested for criminal abuse of office and appeared before Harare Magistrate Elisha Singano who granted him US$500 bail.

According to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation, Parirenyatwa allegedly abused his position as a public officer by directing Natpharm Board chairperson George Washaya to end Flora Sifeku’s contract as managing director favouring Newman Madzikwa who was once dismissed from Natpharm for selling donated drugs.

Parirenyatwa allegedly did so on 4 June this year.

Parirenyatwa was retained as Health Minister when President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over in November last year but was replaced by Obadiah Moyo in Mnangagwa’s new cabinet last week.
