Biti and 5 PDP members’ expulsion from Parliament nullified but….

The expulsion from Parliament of Movement for Democratic Change-Alliance vice president Tendai Biti and five other members of his previous party, the People’s Democratic Party, following their recall by Benjamin  Rukanda who claimed to be the secretary-general of the party has been nullified by the High Court.

Justice Amy Tsanga said Rukanda was not a bona fide member of Biti’s previous party.

Biti was recalled together with:

  1. Willas Madzimure, Kambuzuma,
  2. Settlement Chikwinya, Mbizo,
  3. Kucaca Phulu, Nkulumane,
  4. Sichelesile Mahlangu, Pumula and
  5. Regai Tsunga, Mutasa South.

Lawyer Lovemore Madhuku, however, said the legislators’ return to Parliament could be spoiled if someone decides to appeal Justice Tsanga’s decision.

This could easily happen, if, as the United States said when the six were recalled, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front are bent on dismantling the MDCA.
