Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai will start a four-day tour of Mashonaland West tomorrow kicking off in Hurungwe and winding his tour on Sunday in President Robert Mugabe’s home area, Zvimba.

His spokesman Luke Tamborinyoka said Tsvangirai will talk about the current economic crisis including the power shortages. Mashonaland West is home to the Kariba Power Station.

“The president’s (Tsvangirai) continued engagement with Zimbabweans comes at a time when the political and economic situation in the country is deteriorating at an alarming rate. Zimbabweans can barely survive, with the party in government more worried about succession battles at the expense of finding a solution to the worsening crisis,” Tamborinyoka said in a statement.

“In Mashonaland West, the president will talk about the crisis as well as the MDC’s proposed solutions to the national predicament, including the ZANU-PF failure to come up with a sustainable solution to power shortages characterized by 20-hour blackouts every day. Kariba dam, the major source of power of the country, is in Mashonaland West province.”

Last month Tsvangirai had a four-day tour on Mashonaland Central, former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s home area.

There has been talk that Tsvangirai might join forces with Mujuru but Mujuru has up to now not formally formed her party which should go by the name of People First.

Some of Tsvangirai’s supporters are not comfortable with such a coalition since there is pressure that Mujuru should lead any such coalition.
