Zimbabwe’s older prostitutes are now wishing that police raids could be brought back because their business has plunged because of competition from young girls who have flooded the market and are too cheap.
According to The Economist, a United Kingdom weekly business magazine, one sex worker complained that she had been forced to cut down her price from $10 to $2 for a 30-minute stint and from $50 to $10 for a full night.
Worse still, some of the older prostitutes are now hiring thugs to protect their market but have to provide sex to the thugs whenever they want it in return.
Police raids used to scare away competitors, one sex worker said. “Only the brave remained on the streets. Now it’s free-for-all.”
The Constitutional Court ruled that police should not arrest women for loitering which was associated with prostitution in 2015.
