Delta Zimbabwe increases price of clear beer, says some retail price hikes unjustified

-1

Delta Zimbabwe, the country’s largest beverages maker, today announced that it had increased the wholesale price of clear beer by an average of 25 percent.

It said that while retail prices had been adjusted accordingly some of the prices increases of its products were exorbitant and did not reflect the cost of acquiring the beverages from Delta.

The company also said it is assessing the cost impact on its other products.

Delta last week tried to charge prices for its products in US dollars but was persuaded to maintain the current prices with promises that the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe would provide it with the necessary foreign currency.

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube has set up a foreign currency allocation committee which will be responsible for ensuring equitable distribution of the scarce resource.
