Chivayo case claims its first victim

Former Zimbabwe Power Company chairman Stanley Kazhanje was today jailed for an effective one year for concealing a $10 000 bribe from businessman Wicknell Chivayo whose company Intratek was awarded a 100megawatt solar power station project in Gwanda.

Chivayo was later paid an advance of over $4 million though his company failed to meet the terms of the contract.

Kazhanje was jailed for 3 years but two were suspended.

Chivayo has been fending off corruption charges over the solar tender, so it is not clear how Kazhanje’s conviction will affect his case.
